Lighting and Texture Breakdown
Back then, I was still not sure how I’m gonna apply my clouds in the movie. My first attempt was to use a 2D plane of my drawn clouds. It worked well for the airport but it didn’t work well during the flight. That was my 40% completion of my film and I moved forward to the next shots slowly.
Later on, I looked online and I found some modelled clouds from turbosquid.com. I combined them with my flight shots and I thought they worked very well togerther. I quickly did a render test to check it out.
I received a sample of the music from my composer and I tried to combine it with my current production I did of my film. I liked the dreamy vibe that the music gave me, however, it didn’t flow well with the mood of the movie in some shots. I also improved the model of the pilot hat as the size of it was too big for the girl thanks to Vincent’s feedback. Vincent also suggested to make a few difference in the hallway by addding a few doors which suggests more flats. What’s more, I tried improving the graveyard environment which looked more moody and more realistic.

Version 3
In this version, I focused on the kitchen lighting as I had trouble with, because I wanted it to be dark and show a nice contrast between dark and the bright, glowly bird. I also figured out how to do the cut through the clouds during her flight sequence as I used to png clouds and and rendered the girl seperated to the background, so it can make a nice 3D effect when the cloud passes.
My music composer improved the music as it flows better with my film, however, it still needed some improvement.
Version 4
I’ve been struggling with the animation when the girl starts to fly, so Vincent suggested me to make the background swirl with a close up shot and turn her into a different location – which was the sky. I liked the idea of it as it makes it seem more like a dream rather than reality. He also suggested to make the sky pink instead as it has to look a bit of fantasy. In this version, I also started doing the 2D animation for the bird which I think it turned out nicely. I still had a long way until and animate all the bird shots.
Version 5
Version 6
I slowly did more refining in my animation and some improvements of the lighting. By that time, I’ve decided to remove the shots with the graveyard as it felt like it didn’t compliment the movie very well compared to the other shots, which turned out to be true. In terms of music, I’ve been suggested to use Carl Orff’s music as it really fits in with the film and it’s better than before.
Version 7
I have then used one more piece from Carl Orff so it can fit better with the film. I also managed to animate the bird at the end of the film which I gave it a transparent appearance, because I wanted to show it as a spirit.
Version 8
I was into the editing by that time, specifically at sound editting. I’ve added some background noises and it actually made my film more alive.
Version 9
In version 10, I came back to modelling and texturing at a few assets and environments as I got a feedback from Jordan, stating that the girl’s bedroom should be filled with more objects with a better lighting. He also suggested to improve the lighting during the cockpit shots as the were too exposured and it turned out for the textures to their faces to fade away. What’s more, I improved the lighting in the kitchen and it now looks more natural. I was very happy with my result development.
